Mitch Morland 2-run homer back gem pitching gem by Cole Irwin

Oakland, California. – Mitch Morland hit a two-run homer on the heels of Jed Lowry’s two-run double in the second to return Cole Irwin’s pitching gem and the Oakland Athletics beat Toronto’s Jaish 4-1 on Tuesday night.

Irwin (3-3) pitched more than eight scoring innings in his first start against the Blue Jays, following his final innings at the ovation that stood out from the crowd of 2,970. He hit eight sixes against Ray in his last outing and 29 in his final 25 1/3 innings.

Irwin allowed three hits and one walk while throwing 102 pitches.

Yusemiro Petit finished the seventh save and first 2-hour, 18-minute game since 2017 with the Los Angeles Angels. Petit has a 10-game, 12-inning scoring streak and has not conceded a single in 13 of his last 14 starts.

The A’s trailed Anthony’s (0-2) after four innings of first start against an A’s West opponent. Kai gave up four runs and four hits.

The Blue Jays had yet to announce their starter for Thursday’s series finale.
