Ontario opens online vaccine bookings for people 18 or older in hot-spot communities starting Monday

Anyone over the age of 18 living in one of the 114 hot spots identified by the Ontario government will be able to book an appointment for the COVID-19 vaccine at the Mass Immunization Clinic starting on Monday.

Appointments available for two weeks of May 3 and May 10 can be made through the province’s online Booking system Or directly through public health units, if they have their own booking system.

The province said the expanded qualification is part of a strategy to allocate 25 percent of vaccine supplements to hot spots, up from the current 25% share.

Two weeks focus High risk areasAfter being identified by the postal code, Ontario’s Science Table made a recommendation last month that 50 percent of the dose go to 74 hot spots for a month.

Some people between 18 and 44, living in some hot-spot communities, were previously eligible to take the vaccine to mobile and pop-up clinics, which have been established by local authorities and have seen much local demand.

Also, by Thursday, anyone living in the rest of the province who is 50 or older this year will be able to book an appointment using the online portal or through their local health unit.

The expansion also includes people with high-risk health status on Thursday, employees who cannot work from home who fall under Group One, including any primary and secondary school workers, and First Nations, Inuit and Mitis includes individuals.

The province said that increased vaccine supplies, combined with higher vaccination levels, could result in three-quarters of hot spots in Ontario receiving at least one dose by the end of the two-week period.

Prioritized people who were previously allowed to book using provincial call centers can now book online, including those with the most high-risk health conditions, childcare workers and education workers in licensed child care settings Who provide direct support to students in need of special education.

On Saturday, Ontario passed the goal of giving at least one dose to 40 percent of Ontario’s adults by May 6.
