The Medicine Shoppy Pharmacy in Sherwood Park immunized 100 people with the COVID-19 vaccine in one day on Sunday.
Pharmacist and owner Suhas Thaleswar said, “It’s a very fast flow, so I’ll park an iPad in the parking lot to make sure all the questionnaires are completed and then we’ll have two immunizers.”

The pharmacy received a shipment of the modern vaccine on Friday and decided to book all appointments for Sunday – when the store is usually closed.
“Normally we would make it work in our regular workflow,” Thaleshwar said.
“The province wants us to get through our supplements as soon as possible, so we just agreed to come in on Sunday and just get through all our vaccine.”

People on the waitlist were sorted by priority. When the booking links were sent out, Thaleshwar said it filled up almost immediately.
“We have not been noticed at all when the vaccine arrives,” Thaleshwar explained.
“It would be nice if people could just book appointments, but we never know when supplies are coming, so we use our preferences to make sure the priorities are met first.”
Thaleshwar said it is unclear whether the pharmacy will have more vaccines after Sunday or what type.
As of Sunday, 1,621,306 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine had been taken, with 300,755 Albertans fully immunized.
